*To qualify for the Homestead Exclusion, you must complete and file the application by March 1st stating that you are the homeowner and the property is YOUR PRIMARY RESIDENCE and that's it. You do not need an application if you received the Homestead Reduction last year. If you look at your School tax bill from July 2010 you will see if it is there. It is an automatic deduction on the bill - you do not receive a separate check.
For the 2011 -2012 School Tax year Springfield received $1,742,366.92. We had 5472 property owners who each had $318.04 deducted from their School tax bill.
For the 2010 -2011 School Tax year Springfield received $1,789,891.60. We had 5452 property owners who each had $328.30 deducted from their School tax bill.
For the 2009-2010 School Tax year Springfield received $1,787,865.22. We had 5414 property owners who each had $330.23 deducted from their School tax bill.
The amount of the Homestead Reduction changes from year to year depending on two things:
1) the amount of the pool of money allocated to Springfield Township School District by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and
2) the number of property owners who qualify. Number 1 is divided by #2.
There is no difference for age, income, value of house, etc. Every property owner who qualifies has the same amount deducted from their bill.
